The publication considers "small" leaks of oil products in city Volgograd, which are mainly represented by gasoline leaks at gas stations and leaks of technical liquids from vehicles in parking lots. The properties of these leaks are investigated. The regularities of oil products entering the air from "small" leaks are obtained. Measures are developed to improve the efficiency of collecting leaks. The design of a container for storing and accumulating waste generated as a result of collecting "small" leaks of oil products is proposed and tested. The obtained test results showed that the proposed container design can significantly reduce atmospheric air pollution compared to the commonly used container design.

It is accepted to use sand and sawdust at overflows and leaks of oil products in urban environment. It is allowed to use sorbents. Existing requirements to sorbents which are used for collecting oil and oil products were analyzed on the basis of normative-technical documentation and scientific publications in the article. The necessity of modification and addition of the existing requirements was revealed. The requirements to sorbents for collecting overflows and leaks of oil products in the urban environment were developed.

In publication overflows and leaks of oil products are considered on petrol filling stations. The materials used to collect overflows and leaks of oil products on petrol filling stations are indicated. Disadvantages of sand and properties of silica clay are considered. The petroleum was used for carrying experiments to collecting of oil products by sand and silica clay. The experiments were carried out and the data on changes in the mass of petroleum remaining on the samples (particles of silica clay, particles of sand) from initial mass of the samples (before contact with petroleum) were received. The assumption was made about the possibility of using silica clay instead of sand to collect overflows and leaks of oil products in urban environment.

In the article authors considered properties of materials, which used for liquidation overflows and leaks of oil product in urban environment. Authors analyzed regulatory and technical documentation. It was determined basic disadvantages of materials (sand, sawdust). It was delivered the task of developing criteria to properties of sorbents for collecting oil products in urban environment and search sorbents in according to developed criteria.
